St. Joseph’s Prep takes down #23 Loyola Blakefield

In an early season upset, unranked St. Joseph’s Prep took down DigitalSports’ 22nd ranked Loyola-Blakefield in a big fourth quarter comeback.

Entering the game 0-1, the Hawks lost their first game to Downingtown East.  Loyola, with a very difficult schedule lined up, went into the game with a 2-2 game, coming off a big 14-5 win over 25th ranked St. Anthony’s.

The Dons struggle with Philadelphia teams, having lost to 11th ranked Malvern Prep and 18th ranked Haverford earlier this season, continued as they could not hold on to their lead against another Philly team.

Controlling the game for the first three quarters, the Dons had St. Joe’s right where they wanted them going into the fourth.  Trailing 7-4, the Hawks stepped up to the challenge in the final quarter, taking Loyola 4-0 to pull off an 8-7 victory.

Senior midfielders Pat Walsh and Chase Young led the way for St. Joe’s.  Walsh hit the back of the net four times.  Young put in another two goals in the contest.

With its first win under its belt, St. Joe’s can now get rolling with its season.  The Hawks face Radnor on March 29 in their next game.

Key Players:

Pat Walsh- 4 goals

Chase Young- 2 goals
